Study: Red Wine May Help Kill Cancer Cells
United Press International

March 27, 2008 - An antioxidant found in grape skins and red wine destroyed pancreatic cancer cells, U.S. researchers found.

The study, published in Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, found the antioxidant resveratrol crippled the energy core of the cancer cell at the level of mitochodria.
The study also showed cancer cells pre-treated with resveratrol and then irradiated induced the type of desirable cancer cell death called apoptosis.

The challenge lies in finding the right concentration and how it works inside the cell. We've discovered an important part of that equation, study lead author Dr. Paul Okunieff of the University of Rochester Medical Center said in a statement.
Resveratrol seems to have a therapeutic gain by making tumor cells more sensitive to radiation and making normal tissue less sensitive.

At the suggestion of a young scientist in his lab, Okunieff began studying resveratrol as a tumor sensitizer and discovered its link to the mitochondria which can continuously supply the cancer cell with energy. Theoretically, stopping the energy flow stops the cancer.

Some physicians have expressed concern that antioxidants might end up protecting tumors but this research suggests resveratrol not only makes malignant cells more likely to die, it also protects the normal cells from damage, Okunieff said.

I get a very WIDE/strange/elite/filtered type of crowd in here for the last
13 years. And the information & tips I receive is stuff that the average person never hears.

It's interesting stuff.

Back in the days of the Cigar Boom, when I was the FIRST cigar shop to have
plush leather seating..I actually had a guy that was a hollywood script writer, and
he wanted to do a show about the cigarshop that was a copy of the old series"Barney Miller"
where the set was just like my shop, and it never changed...just the people that came in and
their stories..

TODAY One of my weekly customers, who owns several Construction business's told me about
a TRICK the insurance companies use to get out of paying for damage caused to a home.

It's called "PRUDENT PERSON" and it is also used for getting out of paying Medical Claims aswell!
Let's say you have a tree that's hanging over your roof on your house. Let's say that during a bad storm
part of that ttree falls on your roof and causes damage. They can DENY your claim, because they
can say that "You should of had that Tree trimed, as it was too close to your house. And a Prudent
Person, would have payed a tree trimmer to come out and trim it".

While I think central america growers will continue to do well, the Brazilian government has been HEAVILY investing in premium tobacco research and devolpment. And the longer-term effect of all the extra premium tobacco will help alleviate much higher prices(especially MADURO) should a shortage in C.A. occur.

Another factor to keep in mind is Mother Nature. Weather is always a major factor for any agricultural commodity, and it will be pivotal in determining final crop size, no matter what.

Get READY...It's Coming! (cigar price increase)

ALREADY A MONTH INTO THE NEW YEAR, and tobacco traders begin trying to figure out what manufacturers will be the big buyers in 2008.
Now, it's not exactly breaking news that agriculture markets have basically been on fire for the last couple of years. Corn has skyrocketed on the back of huge ethanol demand, and soybeans, for that matter, have too. Cash-Crops have exploded this year on poor global crops and much higher demand.

So is the big bull run for cigar tobacco starting over again? No, it's actually still the same production as last year. But, the cost of nitrogen and other fertilizers have been going through the roof for the last few years. And now that Oil will be over $100 a barrel...everyone is holding their breath to see if the democrats will be "in the house". Which will net a surething for more nation wide smoking Bans or Taxes...or BOTH.

Now, more than ever...if you find a Good Priced Cigar that YOU like--stock your humidior with it.

While the supply of educated smokers may shrink, some things never go out of style.

Hola! Don Gregory here, with a quick bit of "Intel" for you all....

I have been in the cigar business here in Tampa Bay Florida for over 13 years. And since 1995, have owned
a retail Cigar Store for 13 years, and an actual little cigar factory for almost 8 years (not to mention that it was also FIRST in the clearwater cigar area) in tarpon springs..

And would like to tip off some of our fellow cigar smokers out there, who are out touring on vacation right now, to an old cigar rolling trick, called: the "Re-roll".

This is an old trick where the cigar roller:

does not actually roll the FILLER leafs of the cigar together
takes a cheap "Bundled Cigar" and just rolls on an OUTER WRAPPER leaf for "SHOW"
convinces you that he's labored all day for this unique work of art
Gets you to pay $9-$15 each, for a $1.50 cigar and the honor of being called "Gringo"

and "bada bing, bada boom" you've been cigar screwed!
