Montecristo No. 2 Cuban Review Guide - Top Cuban Cigar Guide

Montecristo No 2 Cuban 101

Cuban Montecristo Cigars are manufactured by Habanos SA, Cuba’s state owned tobacco company. These cigars are amongst the finest known brands available in the market today. The Montecristo brand of cigars initially belonged to Alonso Menendez before being taken over by the Cuban government. Today, it is one of the largest selling brands of Cuban cigars the world over. These cigars are also separately manufactured in the Domnican Republic and Honduras apart from the United States where it is manufactured by Altadis. However, Cuban Montecristo Cigars have a different flavor and aroma that is distinct from others.montecristo no 2 cuban

Should you Really Shop for a Cuban Montecristo?

Well, to put it simply, Cuban Montecristo Cigars offer you an excellent smoking experience that is difficult to match by other brands in the market place. This is precisely why these cigars are the 2nd largest sold cigars in the world. Whether it is a Montecristo No.2 or No.4, these cigars are available in different styles and sizes. Made from tobacco leaves of the Vuelta Abajo region, these cigars are hand rolled to perfection so that you have a very good smoking experience. Another reason why aficionados prefer these cigars is because of its easy availability in the market place. Making Montecristo account for roughly half of worldwide Habanos SA sales

Montecristo No 2 Cuban Reviewcuban tobacco worker 1

The Montecristo No 2 Cuban is one of the most flavorful cigars in the market place. These cigars are really one of the finest if you do not have any construction issues. These cigars are available in a great looking box with a chocolate colored wrapper. Further, the construction of these cigars is so good that you will not find the ash falling. Though the draw is a little firm, it still produces a lot of smoke. According to cigar aficionados, the flavor is comparatively mild with a spicy characteristic. However, as you get to the lower half of the cigar you will experience a woody flavor that is quite difficult to explain in a few words. Overall, a non fake Montecristo No 2 Cuban is worth the money.

Why Buy Montecristo No.4?

The Montecristo No.4 has a very good construction though there are some who may consider the draw to be very tight. Despite this, it delivers a fair amount of smoke. It has a very earthy flavor in the beginning before you start experiencing its spicy side. As you near the end of the cigar, you will experience powerful taste of coffee and cocoa. Finally, the Montecristo No.4 is an excellent cigar that offers great value for your money.

CARLOS TORANO EXODUS SILVER ROBUSTO

CARLOS TORANO EXODUS SILVER ROBUSTO is truly worth every second of the 45 minutes it takes to enjoy this stick. In our experience. Torano has always made one of the best products, period. and as explained to me 20 years ago by the Torano factory, to truly experience them at their PEAK – they need to rest about 9 months, humidified.

The criollo Cuban-seed wrapper is a fine, almost veinless wrapper, that’s smooth and oily to the touch. This is a very well constructed cigar with exceptional tobacco. The CARLOS TORANO EXODUS SILVER ROBUSTO ‘s criollo Cuban-seed wrapper is a lighter shade than the Honduran Cubano-seed wrapper on the Exodus Gold.

CAO BRAZILIA CARIOCAS 10/5 tin of 5

CAO BRAZILIA CARIOCAS 10 tin’s of 5 cigars. Awsome short,4×38 full bodied smoke, that is both creamy & peppery. Not to mention, that CAO BRAZILIA is certainly one of our more popular full-bodied blends.

The Brazilian-grown Arapiraca wrapper leaf is a heavy, veiny, beautiful dark brown. And definitely shows flavor characteristics of leather, cocoa, molasses, while the Nicaraguan binder & filler tobaccos add to a pepper and /nutty finishes. Smoking one of these heavy, rich, little cao brazilia cariocas makes one really long for a good espresso or dark beer!

Review: CASA DE GARCIA CONNECTICUT BELICOSO

Described as medium to fuller bodied cigar that’ll start out with a pepper kick

Casa de Garcia Connecticut Belicoso is made in the Dominican Republic but uses a Connecticut wrapper and binder over filler from the Dominican Republic and Honduras, available in four sizes, each coming in 20-count bundles. Casa de Garcia is a brand in the Altadis U.S.A. portfolio that is geared for value-priced cigars.

OUR RATING: 85

Casa de Garcia Connecticut
  • Wrapper : Connecticut

  • Binder : Connecticut

  • Filler : Dominican and Honduran

available in five sizes:
  • 5 1/2 x 44 Corona – MSRP $1.65
  • 4 3/4 x 50 Robusto –  MSRP $1.70
  • 5 1/2 x 50 Toro – MSRP $1.85
  • 6 1/2 x 50 Churchill – MSRP $1.95
  • 6 1/8 x 52 Belicoso – MSRP $2.05

The Review

An uneven burn that kept with the casa de garcia for the first 1 inch – no matter how I tried to correct it with my torch lighter.  But..it had a smooth, easy draw, going for it,
casa de garcia belicoso don gregory cigars reviewcasa de garcia belicoso don gregory cigars review2casa de garcia belicoso cigar shop express review

At this point the flavor was very peppery with a bit of a strong kick. (Reminded me slightly of a hoyo de monterrey)
casa de garcia belicoso review

Once past the beginning first inch, the ash held well & the initial peppery flavor tempered down nicely.

Good flavor right here. It was much milder at this point, than in the beginning of the cigar. Producing a mellow connecticut shade characteristic.
casa de garcia belicoso cigar shop express review 1

Ok this value priced Belicoso turned out to be MUCH more than I expected. The draw was consistently great throughout the whole stick. And for a Mixed Filler cigar, this ash really hung on-even on a windy Florida day!
casa de garcia belicoso don gregory cigars review 2

The mixed filler couldn’t hold past the first 2.5 inches, but it was very impressive as long as it did.  Actually at this point is where the flavor became nice, rich, smooth and slightly creamy – very enjoyable, actually!
casa de garcia belicoso cigar shop express

At this point, I was pretty much done with it. Could have gone further, but at this price, why bother!

casa de garcia belicoso
  1. Good flavor for 65% of the cigar
  2. For not all Long Filler, Ash held on for 2.5 inch segments
  3. Attractive Connecticut Shade wrapper
  4. Great Price

The Verdict?

A Very Good Daily / Work / Fishing / Utility cigar, that I would not hesitate to share with a fishing buddy! This is a very popular item right now and I can see why. Actually these are comparatively fresh smokes, in regards to the average 2-3 year vintage hand rolleds.  Just a month of maturing would quite be interesting.

Laranja Reserva Toro Brazilian

Laranja Reserva Toro is an exotic 6 x 52 rated 93 by Cigar Aficionado.

The name Laranja is Portuguese for Orange, which also was chosen for the rare Brazilian orange-colored wrapper that comes from the Recôncavo region.

The beautiful, Espinosa Cigars’ Laranja Reserva Toro features a flavorful and fragrant, orange Brazilian wrapper paired with a robust Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. Medium bodied, full flavored, with elements of cedar, ginger, earth, citrus, black pepper, nut, wheat grass & mint, followed by an enjoyable & sometimes sweet-floral finish. An immensely satisfying medium-full bodied cigar that sells out fast!

The A Fuente Cigar Factory Fire of 1924.

A Fuente Cigar Factory Fire of 1924A young, 24-year old Cuban émigré opens the prosperous A Fuente Cigar Company.

Arturo Fuente’s story starts in 1912, in the Ybor City section of Tampa, making cigars of imported Cuban tobaccos. The A Fuente factory burned down in 1924, leaving Arturo in dire straights financially. He worked for another cigar maker until 1940, when he finally reopened, operating first out of his home, and then moving to a new factory. He continued importing Cuban tobacco until 1960, when the US embargo against Cuban imports was established.

Arturo Fuente

brand was launched by a 24-year old Cuban émigré named Arturo Fuente as A. Fuente & Co. Fuente had come to the United States in 1902, leaving his hometown

In the 1970s, the company attempted to move, first to Nicaragua and then to Honduras, but suffered fires at both locations, Finally, the company settled in the Dominican Republic in 1980, and currently produces over 24 million cigars annually in six factories and four plantations, employing 2,000 workers, including 500 torcedors.

Image result for factory burned down in 1924, leaving ArturoToday, Arturo’s son Carlos and grandson, Carlos, Jr. oversee production. Their line offers a medium-to-full bodied taste, with the celebrated Hemingway series a little mellower, thanks to an additional 140 days of aging. Many of the natural-wrapper cigars (including the Hemingway series) feature Cameroon leaves, with Connecticut leaf used for maduros and 4 of the sizes are available in an Ecuadorian sun-grown.

Manufactured using carefully selected scarce vintage tobaccos, the Fuente Family developed this line: Don Carlos. These medium bodied Cameroon wrapped cigars were under development for a long time before Carlos Sr. gave his approval, assuring the buyer the finest quality cigar obtainable. Carlos Fuente Sr. worked to achieve the quintessential in full flavor, perfect wrapper color and excellent construction in every Don Carlos cigar. Today, cigar connoisseurs all over the world recognize that Don Carlos is outstanding and deserving of the distinction, “Pride of the Fuente Family”.

A.Fuente Anejo

These cigars were first produced in 2000 and have been rarely seen since that time. One of the most difficult cigars to locate, Anejo have the same binder and filler as the critically accclaimed Opus X cigars. A Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper is used.

A-Fuente Gran Reserva

Exclusively the best vintage tobaccos and hand craftsmanship are used in A-Fuente cigars, produced through a combination of skill and Image result for factory burned down in 1924, leaving Arturoart. Every leaf is individually chosen out of a private family source set aside solely for the production of these cigars. Mixed along with the best Fuente tobaccos globally acknowledged for their superiority, the A-Fuente Gran Reserva is subsequently skillfully rolled using African Cameroon, Connecticut Shade or Ecuadorian Sun Grown, these wrapper tobaccos are the most expensive and sought after wrapper tobacco in the world.

The job of producing the A Fuente Gran Reserva is reserved for the most talented cigar makers, using the exceptional expertise required to produce this distinctively blended cigar. Each crucial step is carried out totally by hand, to guarantee a unique completed cigar.

OLD FASHIONED CHICO CONNECTICUT

Old Fashioned Chicos represent the importance of great bargains on overruns & slightly blemished Macanudo cigars from the Dominican Republic. This value proposition on premium cigars are a great way to get premium mild dominican flavor at an everyday low price without paying a high price and forgoing the fancy box & ascot tins. Old Fashioned Chicos cigars are made from the same high quality tobaccos as infamous Macanudo A$c@ts.

Personally, we’ve been smoking them for over 15 years and haven’t found any flaws yet, other than, sometimes a cellophane wrapper won’t peel completely off, or the wrapper on the tiny cigar looks slightly “stretched” – but, seriously you’re getting 50 Fresh Premium M@c_ud%  A_c@ts for less than the price of 2 Tins!

Before You Die: A Davidoff and Dalmore? Sure, Why Not!

1951 Vintage Single Malt and Cigar Special

When it comes time for the final “Last Call”, after a long rewarding life or the end of a sumptuous orgie of adventure & excitment – nothing beats the reward of pouring a nice glass of Single Malt Whiskey and kicking one’s feet up to relax with an Extravagant, Fine Hand Rolled Cigar.

Any Last Requests?

Certainly. Some have not the same idea as me, but if you’re a frequent reader of this website, then I’m sure you’d want to do it, just as lavishly as I. If you can afford some the top single malt and cigar examples in the world, then you won’t mind spending five figures on the Dalmore Distillery’s newest, and further emancipating the experience by puffing away on one of the smoothest, expensive cigars in the world from Davidoff.dalmore eos

A perfect single malt and cigar pearing. The whiskey — named: Eos — is a single malted whiskey aged for 59 years.

On June 7, 1951, Dalmore filled casks #1751 and #1752 and left them to mature. They’re being released now in 20 mouth blown decanters made with Portugese crystal. That decanter is then hand cut and lined with silver highlights. The finishing touch involves encasing the crystal in a solid steel box inlaid with dark timber.

Dalmore Eos serves well with the woody notes & nutty flavors of cedar and hazelnut in the Davidoff Special Double R.

The cigar — named: Special Double R is Handcrafted in the Dominican Republic, with aged fillers spanning four different tobacco harvests. Special Double R’s are high in price & high in quality.

Each cigar looks stunning and burns like a dream, boasting a complex, davidoff special double rmedium – full-bodied profile. Flaunting seamless wrappers, perfect burn, easy draw and relentless consistency. The opulent Davidoff Special’s flavor hits the mark and exudes an exquisite taste right from the start. Magically, the flavor profile doesn’t change, and stays the same from beginning to end. No need for it to mellow or ramp up, it’s already just right from the time you light to the final third when you finally decide to put it down.  Every 1 of 25 in the Davidoff cedar cabinet, accredited with balanced flavor….time and again.

Fancy a Davidoff & Dalmore before you kickoff?

Be prepared to spend about 23,527.00 US Dollars for one bottle of the smoothest whiskeys ever to be released Man-thinkingand $730 US for one box of the smoothest, most opulent cigars ever to be hand rolled.

If those single malt and cigar prices alone, don’t encourage an acceleration of the the faintness of heart — just remember, your smoking 1 of the worlds most magnificent cigars, and sampling probably 1 on of only the rarest few bottles of single malt scotch on the globe, and that’s all you need to know.

Pour the single malt whiskey out of the bottle, and your senses perk up like a cat’s ears when they hear something interesting. Honeyed pear and pineapple are the initial smells, but there is a hint of dark chocolate and roasted coffee as well.  Your taste buds will insatiably appreciate the treat of a good whiskey with flavor hints of toffee, caramel, orange, golden syrup & cinnamon. Of course, the aftertaste is as smooth as drinking the finest pure water. You’ll never have the “bitter taste face” when you enjoy Eos.

Now, roll the 7 1/2″ Double Corona draped in a Fine, Blonde colored, Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, between your fingers and observe that the cigar is a real masterpiece. Rolled by the factories most experienced, expert rollers and blended to perfection, all cigars boast 4 year aged and hand-selected Dominican fillers.

Should you make it to lighting up 1 more, you’d notice the draw & flavors are monumentally consistent.

Perhaps for the final “conclusion”…

What would be REALLY cool, instead of leaving behind enough money to only buy 1 used car…if you left behind 1 box each of a fine single malt and cigar to be enjoyed by your relatives & beneficiary at the reading of your will – now that would truly be 1 magnificent, memorable Celebration of Life…and hell, the hand blown crystal decanter wouldn’t be a shabby place for the ashes, as well!!
